Monday's Post - Seizing Opportunities

Some opportunities come clothed in needs. Some come dressed up as goals, or dreams we have had.

And some come dressed up as a crisis.

We are in a time nationally of financial crisis, and yet it is also a time of incredible opportunity - to serve others, live without anxiety, and offer hope.

The Chinese character for crisis is a mixture of two other characters: Danger, and opportunity. Thoughts?

Monday's Post - Taking Risks

I actually read this on the package of a Superman costume I purchased for my son last year: "Wearing of this garment does not enable you to fly."

Really... did we really need this warning label?

Then again, I was the kid jumping off the roof with a pillowcase. I guess some people are just risk-takers - or perhaps, just have low I.Q.'s? I dunno.

Risk-taking for God's Kingdom, however, is not about crazy personalities. It's about seeing the gain of the risk as bigger than the loss. The gain is touched lives - families stronger, neighbors cared for, communities served, hearts transformed.

Take a risk.

Monday's Post - Adversity & Uncertainty

It's hard to drive with someone when you're unsure of their driving ability - harder again when you're not sure where they're going. Who wants to get in a wreck? Who wants to run out of gas in the middle of nowhere, lost? Add to that "adverse driving conditions" and now we all just want to be inside, safe and warm.

So many times I have asked God to stop the storm - stop the car- fill me in on where He's taking me. I'm a backseat (sideseat) driver: grabbing for the wheel, pointing out that He could use my map, demanding He find a smoother road to drive on.

And still He drives on.

This difficult road has taught me and made me someone new and different. I've learned to trust His leading. I don't need to know the destination, or why He chose this road over another. Through adversity, I've become stronger. It has refined my character. And I have a great road trip buddy.

Thoughts? Add yours!

Monday's Post - Facing Your Fears

Facing your fears can be one of the most liberating things in the world. When Joshua replaced Moses as leader to the Israelites, it was obvious he was afraid; why else would God have to say to him several times, "Be strong and courageous!" (Joshua 1)

Courageous people are still afraid; yet the go on, and face their fears. In Joshua 1:9, we find these words: "Do not be terrified; do not be discouraged." Which reminds me that some fears are external (terrifying), and some are internal (discouraged). Some of our own fears about ourselves stop us as much as fears that are "out there".
